Sunday Style - Intentions vs Desires

Sunday Style - Intentions vs Desires

Quick question... Do you like to wear dresses? Most of the year, I'm not a big dress wearer, but during the summer I love to wear dresses. They are so easy to wear. I've picked up a few more recently. This one I found at Community Aid Thrift Store.

We even drove the motorcycle to church this morning. I wear dresses on the motorcycle all the time. I find it a bit comical, when people ask me if I wore 'that' on the motorcycle. 😆 Yeppers!

I wanted to share a bit about a sermon our pastor spoke on a couple of weeks ago. Intentions vs. desires... this has been resonating in my heart and mind. I'm just going to share a few points of his sermon, but if you want to hear the whole thing, you can click the YouTube video at the end.

Pastor Todd has been preaching a series called 'A Heart On Fire For God', and through that we've been talking about the children of Israel being freed from slavery and their journey through the desert.

Mose's desire was to be as close to God as possible. Aaron, seemed to have good intentions, but... read this verse in Exodus.

Exodus 32:22-24 (NLT)
22 “Don’t get so upset, my lord,” Aaron replied. “You yourself know how evil these people are. 23 They said to me, ‘Make us gods who will lead us. We don’t know what happened to this fellow Moses, who brought us here from the land of Egypt.’ 24 So I told them, ‘Whoever has gold jewelry, take it off.’ When they brought it to me, I simply threw it into the fire—and out came this calf!”

Really? It seems that Aaron wanted to please the people more than God.

James 1:14(CEV)
14 We are tempted by our own desires that drag us off and trap us.

Satan is cunning and we seem to help him out by revealing our desires to him, then he uses them against us.

Proverbs 18:21(CEV)
Words can bring death or life! Talk too much, and you will eat everything you say
.

This quote from Margaret Thatcher is pretty spot on.

"Watch your thoughts, for they will become actions. Watch your actions, for they'll become habits. Watch your habits, for they will forge your character. Watch your character, for it will make your destiny."
- Margaret Thatcher

What does a police officer say before a person is arrested?

Everything you say, can and will be used against you. Hmmm, how much do we say out loud that the enemy of our soul uses against us? We need to watch our words.

I have good intentions but they don't always come to fruition. Usually what I truly desire is what happens. How do I make my desires, what God desires for me?

For one, realize what I'm speaking out of my mouth. Also, relinquish my desires to The Lord. Purposefully, think of the fruits of the spirit, to change my thinking.

Galations 5:22-24(NLT)
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

In Philippians it also tells us how to fix our thoughts.

Philippians 4:8(NLT)
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

I want to have more than just good intentions, I want to have God's desires in my life. Let's choose better! Who's with me?

Blessings,
Lori
