It's just a busy time of year!
I really enjoy Christmas, so I thought I'd give you a tiny tour of the decor I bring out to celebrate this blessed time of year.
Welcome into our home...

Winter Wonderland Wreath

Have you been Christmas decorating?
I'm pretty much finished.
We even got the outside lights up. Yay!
As I was putting up this wreath, I was telling myself how boring it looked.
I definitely needed to spruce it up.

Dreamy Pumpkin Cupcakes

When I first took a bite of these babies I thought...
OMG! These are the best I have EVER baked!
The combination of the super moist cupcake and the
TO DIE FOR frosting was absolutely amazing!!
They were so easy to make also, which makes them

Extend Your Chandelier With PVC

Where have I been you might be asking???
Well, actually, I've been back working at the apartments...
Not necessarily where I want to be, but it's where I need to be.
Oh, the "joys" of being a landlord/owner...

Today, I'm going to show you what hubs and I have
been up to in our "spare" time...
He put up our gorgeous chandelier that we purchased to go over the pool table.  I am LOVING it!!
The room is really coming together!

Closet Clean-Up

We survived Hurricane Sandy without any damage at all. We are so very blessed.  My heart and prayers go out to all that have been devastated.
So much damage, it's unbelievable.
Please keep the east coast in your prayers.

Since I was stuck at home and the electricity was holding out,
I couldn't just sit around doing nothing...
I figured I'd do as much as I can while I could.
Yes, I filled my tub up with water.  Since, we are on a well, we would need water to flush our toilets.  I learned that one the hard way, when we lost power for a few hours a while back.... that's all I'll say about that. :/

3-2-1 Cuppy Cake {The EASIEST Cake Ever!}

I pray this appeals to sugaraholics everywhere.
I must admit, I am one.  It's definitely one of my weakness, chocolate, cookies, cake, candy.... you name it! The other problem, is I really like to bake.  Are you seeing my dilemma? So, being an empty nester you don't have the kiddos around to eat all of your baking masterpieces....
My newest solution....
3-2-1 Cuppy Cake!

DIY Sliding {Barn Style} Door

I'm so excited to share this with you!
About a month ago we turned our "formal" unused living room
into a pool room.   You can read about it here in
A Crazy Idea For A Formal Living Room
and you can see how we got that baby in here.
Because of that crazy idea we had to make some changes in our den/library.
Twice a month we hold a "home cell" group at our home.  We usually have about 4-5 children that come and we like to have a place where they can play.  (Plus one day... I'll have grandchildren.  Just trying to think ahead...)
So, we needed to add a door to this room.  We didn't want a swinging door,
it would just get in the way and we didn't want to pay for a pocket door,
too much $$.  So, what do I do? Search on Pinterest!  My favorite place!
That's where the sliding "barn door" idea came from!

Pool Table is IN!

The pool table is sooo much fun!
Hubs and I have been playing quite a bit.
I need to practice or something, because EVERYONE beats me! Pretty much the only way I beat hubby is when he scratches the 8 ball.  I don't find that much of a win, especially when I still have 3-7 balls still on the table.
Oh, well! Be a big girl, Lori... :)
This pool table idea seemed a bit crazy at first.
You can read about it here in

DIY Laundry Detergent

If you are on Pinterest...
You had to have seen how to make your own laundry detergent.
I mean really, EVERYBODY'S doing it!
So, I had to give it a try too!
First, I contacted my bloggy friend, Eliesa, at A Pinterest Addict.  She has a great blog and you should check her out!  She's in the middle of a bathroom renovation. I bet it's going to look fabulous!!
Anyway, she made this stuff earlier this summer, and I wanted to know if she still "loved" it.
And she DOES!
So, now I knew I had to try it.
Here's how I made my DIY Laundry Detergent.

Sweet Rolls {By Complete Accident!}

Tonight a "funny" thing happened to me.
Hubby and I decided to make pizza for dinner.
So, I set to making the pizza dough.  It's a very easy recipe. But I noticed as it was mixing in the mixer it wasn't balling up like dough normally would.  I got my spatula in there to help it, and I got some on my finger.  I admit it... I licked it!! It tasted different, but I couldn't put my finger on it. (hardy har har) Hmm, that tasted different. It still would not ball up. This is weird. So, I added more flour. Thinking it would stiffen up.
It didn't.
So, I lifted the mixer and was looking at it, dumbfounded. I tasted it again. Something is not right here....
Then I saw it....

Canning Jalapeños

My garden is Ka Put!
The tomatoes really never appeared in abundance.  I might have gotten about a total of 25-35 good SMALL tomatoes.
The funny thing is my jalapeño plants did beautifully.
They were VERY abundant!  I gleaned every jalapeño I could find.
Here is my last harvest.

Falling In Love With Fall

I don't know about all of you, but I absolutely LOVE this time of year! Out here in PA it's starting to get a little chillier.
The sun goes down earlier and all the mums are blooming.
See mine here...

Another Pinterest Success! {The Shredder!}

I was going to write about my fantastic fall decorations....
But the pictures turned out awful.... Half of them were blurry... Ugh!!
So, I'll have to try again tomorrow.
Today the pool table came, I'll have to share those pics another time too...sorry.
I AM going to share with you one of the BEST things I've pinned on Pinterest.  Well, probably not the best... I just wish I had found this out years ago.
It would have saved me HOURS of time!
Using this mixer in a very unusual way...

Pool Table Room {A Work In Progress}

Working on the "pool room" has been an adventure.
We kinda had to move a couple of rooms around to make it work.
But we are ready! At least for delivery of this...
Isn't she a beauty? I am LOVIN the claw feet.  Of couse it won't be on wheels...

In Honor of 9/11

This was going to be a different kind of post, but once I started writing, I felt moved to go in a totally opposite direction.  And yes, I’m on vacation enjoying the beautiful ocean and skies of Myrtle Beach, SC, but I wanted to write.  This is actually turning into a short journal entry… Knowing today is 9/11, I want to give honor to those who perished that day. That day was forever burned into our memory.

DIY Dry Erase Cleaning Calendar

Happy Friday!!
I'm especially thrilled
because tomorrow hubby and I are leaving for a much needed vacation!
A whole week on the beach... doesn't that sound wonderful??
So, I thought I'd post something that I just did today.
I revamped my cleaning calendar.
About a month ago I did a post called
How To Make Cleaning Easy
That cleaning calendar has really revolutionized my life.

A Crazy Idea For a Formal Living Room

Now that I'm done with the office... Yay!
It's time to get started on something new.
Hubby and I have been toying around with a few ideas.
So.... hubby proposed getting a pool table.  I'll admit I was like,"What in the world are you thinking?" A pool table? Really?
But...give me a little time, and I'll come around.
I started warming up to the idea.
Hubby was thinking of the basement at first.
But, we have a formal(aka never used) living room.
To me it seems like such a waste of space to have a room that just sits.
What do you all think?
Hubby believes that there will be enough room.
Right now it is a VERY boring room.
Except for those awesome leopard print chairs!
Don't you just love the little presents my niece left me? :D
Here's a little of what I'm envisioning... Dream with me a bit.  You walk in and see gorgeous board and batten along the wall, with a small little ledge for drinks and snacks. Plus a few stools.
The couch and coffee table are out. Now, picture in it's place, a nice beautiful pool table. More board and batten along that wall...
Some cool artwork, of course the walls will be painted.  Maybe some sconces.
We haven't decided on a color for the walls.  Maybe a taupe (ish) color.  Maybe a green tinge or a blueish color. I'm really excited to get started.
Of course, you know, I'll probably get distracted and and find something that needs to be done here and there.
That's what makes it interesting!!
Are we crazy?? or What??

The Office Is Finally Finished!

I thought I should make it official that I have completed the office.
Do you hear the roar of the crowd??Sirens? Lights flashing? Fireworks?
What? It's only been 7 MONTHS!!!
Well, it's as done as it's going to get right now.
I'm still on the hunt for a new rug. The curtains I'm not sure what to do.
I can't make up my mind.
What I'm thinking of doing kinda scares me.
What if don't like it, so I'm going to wait.
Besides, there are WAY too many other things I want to do in this house!
So, here we go with a little before and after. Remember this?
That seems like forever ago!
You can read about the office's meager beginnings here and here.

How to Mix Patterns Correctly

That title sounds so formal....
Ha!  You all know I'm not much about formal...
(Something inside me wanted to type y'all..??)
I have always been intimidated by mixing patterned fabrics.  When I tried, it never quick looked right.  More like something out of the 70's, can you picture tye dye and psychedelic all jumbled up. Not very put together.
Actually kinda scary looking...
Now, I really love this fabric! Look familiar?
Normally, I would have NO CLUE what to put with it.
But, while I was at Haven this summer,
I learned the FORMULA!
Had I known there was a formula,
I could have conquered this a LONG time ago!

Stenciling The Back of My Hutch

I thought this would be a quick project. HA!  I’ve been “pouncing” for DAYS!!!
Pouncing is a word, by the way…
My right bicep and forearm are definitely more defined!
The art of pouncing is quite interesting.
You need to have a lot of bounce in your pounce.
This was way more work that I thought.
Maybe a bigger stencil next time. Yep, definitely.
BUT!!!! I LOVE the way it came out.  It brightens up the whole hutch and office!
This first pic I had to rummage around for, because apparently I forgot to take a before picture.
This was also before we moved things around.

How to Make Cleaning Easy!

It’s time to start cleaning up here at the Stonybrook House!
Now that the kiddos are back to college, there will be less messes to clean, right?
Less messes means a cleaner house, a cleaner house
means I can focus on getting more projects done! Yay!
Am I boo hooing because my house is empty?
No not really.  I love the time I have with my kids, but I also love the time I have with hubby
and just being by myself.
It’s probably because when my kids are here, I focus on them.
They know I’m nosy and I'm in their business quite a bit… Oh well.  I’m the mom, right?!
Isn’t that my job??  I thought so….
I’m sure I won’t have much time to miss them.
They seem to come home often and use the laundry room :)

National S'mores Day {S'Mores Cookies}

I just realized that today is
National S'mores Day!
Well, if I had clued in earlier this would have been out this morning...
Oh well!
My daughter and I just made these the other day
and I've been meaning to get this out.
While my daughter was in the Bahamas, my son found this devilishly sinful recipe for s'more cookies.  My daughter said that she would make some when she came back!
When she looked at that recipe you had to sandwich
 a s'more with cookie dough.
Well, we tried it, but it was way too hard to do.
The cookie dough was sticky and made a mess.
Hubby was sitting there and started discussing options.
This is what we came up with (mostly hubby's idea).  This was much, much easier and very, very good!!!

Summer Lovin….

I am really enjoying my summer days now!
I feel like I’m finally getting some things done.
It has given me a great sense of accomplishment. Yay!
So, I’m sure some of you all saw my Blogger Dance Party… Ugh!
I still can’t believe that I did that…. I just need to get over myself!
Life is short, have some fun, Lori!
I love this saying…

like no one is watching
like you’ll never get hurt
like no one is listening
like it’s heaven on earth
-William W. Purkey

We all could do that a little more, right?
Anyway, I have so much to show you.
I’ve been itching to do it all week!
First up….

You can see how the adventure began here

Blogger Dance Party!! Whoo Hoo!!

This is DEFINITELY one of the most embarrassing things I've actually done!!! But as they say the older you get the less you care... I'm not so sure...
But you know what, oh well!
I may have a few moves, but there aren't too many left.
I actually learned a couple of these moves at my brother's wedding a couple of weeks ago...
My new sister-in-law knows how to get DOWN!!

And why do we make those awful faces???
Oh, Lord!
This was my first video and may very well be my last.  Time will tell.

Sunburst Orange Ombre Pallet Sign {It Is Well}

Well, Hello there!
It’s been a week since my last post.  And I know I owe you an update on the progress of the nails. I’ll have that up for you later.
I’m just so excited to show you what I’ve been up to lately!
I have actually been working on our office.  Finally!
No, I mean really working on it.

Now, if you've been reading blogs or pinning on Pinterest, I'm sure you've seen the surge of DIY projects with pallets.
I love it!  There are so many varieties.
Pallet furniture, pallet flags, pallet subway signs, pallet art.
I think it's awesome to take what is trash and
make something beautiful out of it!

I was looking at our office the other day and trying to figure out how I wanted to do a “gallery wall”.  I was actually thinking about what to do with that wall, way back in a post I called "We are Moving".
So, I've been on Pinterest a lot (You can check out my boards here.) looking at my office board. I've done searches on gallery walls and shelves… and I came across some pallet art. Hmmm… I was thinking I needed something large to balance out the wall. Bingo!  I have a pallet in the garage.  I am sooo doing this!

I just have to show you!!!

July Is Flying By

I can't believe that July is more than half way over!
I convinced myself to do the July Photo-A-Day Challenge.
I have absolutely LOVED doing it.
I'm not the greatest at remembering to take pictures.
I figured this would help me take more pictures and work on some much needed photography skills.
I'm going to share a few of my favorites so far this month.
I took this one in my backyard.

Canning Zucchini Relish

A couple of days ago I posted that I was doing something I hadn’t done in probably 10 years!

I canned Zucchini Relish! I didn’t completely forget!
It was like riding a bike… well sort of.

As you know, in my garden this year, I planted some zucchini.

Is Your Mac Running Slow? {Installing more RAM}

I was asked to post about this when I was at
The Haven Conference in Atlanta, GA.
Some of us bloggers were talking about our computers and I mentioned how easy it was for my son to increase the RAM on our computer.

We purchased our Mac last summer.
My son (the computer science major) helped us “build” it.

I have to say I love it!  It has been the best computer purchase we have ever made.  I like that I haven’t had to worry about viruses.
We seemed to have problems with that on our PC.  Anyway…

DIY Gazebo With Shade {My Gazebo Got Sunglasses}

We love to eat dinner out on our patio,
but it isn’t very fun with the sun blazing in your eyes!
I have been wracking my brain for the best solution
and of course the cheapest!

I looked at getting blinds for it, or some sorta roller shade.
But they weren’t cheap and I didn’t know how I would attach them to the poles.

Salsa Garden Update

I can’t believe this is the last day of June already??!!
Is this summer whizzing past or what??

I thought you all might want to see how my Salsa Garden is doing.

Life at the Stonybrook House has been pretty busy.
My daughter is gearing up for a missions trip for 3 weeks and we have also been busy at the apartments,
(where I believe I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel).

But all of that has not stopped my garden from growing!
I think it’s growing great!
Check it out!

Haven 2012 Recap: Setting My Priorities Straight

I just want to say WOW!
What an awesome weekend!
Rhoda from Southern Hospitality
and her team did a fantastic job putting this conference together!

The workshops were so informative.
The sponsors were wonderful.
But the best thing was meeting so many AMAZING women!
I just have to give a shout out to my favorite peeps!!

These girls made the weekend the best!

CD Holder to Necklace Organizer

This is what happens to me…. I can look at a mess for months!  It never really bothers me.  Then one day…. Bada Bing!  I can’t take another day of looking at it.  I MUST take care of that ASAP!  What is that?  Weird, huh?

So, here we go with another one of those projects that is totally not on the list of potential projects or things to get done… But if you know me, I'm going to add it just so I can cross it off.  :)  It's a Lister thing.

You would be proud of me though, I have worked on the basement.  Not necessarily in my rat pack area, but I’ve clean out a lot of the rest of the basement….

In throwing things out and trips the local mission, I came across this. It’s been in the basement for years, as you can tell from the cobwebs and layer of dust.  I was going to donate it.

25 Quirky Things about me...

HAVEN is in 7 more days....
And I'll be in Atlanta, GA for my very
first bloggy conference.
I was nervous just signing up! You can read about that here.
Now, I'm getting ready to leave.
No wonder I've been a basket case lately....
Well, there's been a TON of stuff going on around here!!

I know that I'm going to meet so many amazing people!
I know that I'm going to learn so much!
I know I'm going to have the time of my life!
I know, I know, I know!
So why am I so nervous???
Probably fear of the UNKNOWN!!
I just need to take a deep breath and relax!

One of the ladies going did a post on 25 things about herself. I thought that was kinda neat.  So, here goes... Can I even think of 25 "interesting" things about myself.... We'll see

DIY Bench Makeover

My poor ole bench has gone from
drab to FAB!

Yes, I’m finally going to post about something I did for the office!
I survived yesterday after I found out that all of my pics for this
fantabulous bench did a disappearing magic trick on me….
You can read more on that here.

I needed a break! So, I went to one of the biggest malls around
my little podunk town, about and hour away,
where they have an Apple Store.
I dunked my iphone about a month or so ago
and it actually worked fine except for the sound.
It was sporadic at best and I couldn’t play music through the speakers.
I thought, I’ll just have them check it out and see what can be done.
Well, surprisingly no water damage was detected.
They gave me a new phone! Can you say AWESOME!!
Well, that made my day!
No more Miss grumpy pants here!
Only wish I had done it earlier!

So now on to the reveal…..

Here we have a “orangey wood” bench dejected and doomed to the basement.
But now in the garage for it's makeover.
Drab Old Ugly Bench

June 7, 2012

I was so incredibly excited to share with you all
about my drab to fab bench
and new bench cushion, that I made!
…. I took the time to take a bajillion pics and
when I put the SD card in my Mac they were NO WHERE to be found!

So, here’s what happened…..
My son had asked me to “document” him and his friend building their new computers, which was quite interesting and entertaining.
It was a lot of fun playing photographer!
I had pics of them putting their CPU’s in
and their ram on the motherboard then putting all of it together.
I have to say they built some massive computer beasts!!

A Stroll Down Stonybrook Lane

I took my phone with me on my walk this morning.
I usually don’t because one, I don’t like it in my pocket
and second, I don’t like to be interrupted on my walk.

But it was sooo gorgeous I just had to share my walk with you!

This is what I woke up to….

Well, I finally found them and finished them!
