Sunday Drive - Linger... Don't Rush

Sunday Drive - Linger... Don't Rush - Roses

What does it mean to linger? It means to stay in a place longer than necessary because of a reluctance to leave. I'm sure you've heard the saying, 'Stop and smell the roses'. It's so easy just to walk right by them without taking the time to enjoy their fragrance.

Hmmm.... That definition of linger is making me stop and ponder. How many times do I linger in the Lord's presence? Not as much as I'd like...  A lot of the time, I rush in spout off my needs, grab as many blessings as I can and make a quick exit because of 'all the things' I need to get to. Ugh!

That wasn't fun to admit, but it's the truth and most likely, I'm not the only one.

We were designed to be filled with with God's love, joy and peace. We are very leaky vessels and need to be refilled over and over again. If not, we will be more empty than full.

2 Corinthians 4:7(NLT)
We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

That's why we need to linger. As we linger, we are filled to overflowing with the blessings of heaven, like the fruits of the spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23(NLT)
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

We were designed to leak, we are meant to share these gifts. For others to see the light and beauty of Christ. But it also means we need to keep coming to The Father for renewal every day.

Matthew 5:16(NLT)
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

So, slow down.... even though the world is trying to push you to hurry up. Take some time to stop and linger, smell the roses. Enjoy the presence of The Lord. Relish the time of refilling. Bask in the light of His presence and then you will be refreshed and full ready to take on the world!

Blessings,
Lori

  1. The fruits of the spiritare difficult to see in people and difficult to manifest and maintain. It is with practice, faith and desire that we strive. Stillness and mindfulness
