Sunday Style - Giving Problems Too Much Power

Sunday Style - Giving Problems Too Much Power

We all struggle with difficulties. Some are larger than others, some weigh us down more than others. But have you ever thought about how much our thoughts play a part in that?

From an eternal perspective, our troubles are actually very small, light and temporary. Yet, they are very real from our perspective.

2 Corinthians 4:17 (NLT)
For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

Those struggles and problems could be feeling so heavy, because we have given them too much power. Think about that for a moment. Every time you focus on them and forget about our heavenly Father, we empower them just a bit more....

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

There is a few key words in that scripture in Matthew. First, 'take my yoke upon you'. What does that even mean? A yoke is a wooden harness used by oxen and other animals to ease the work of hauling a load.

So how does that relate to our struggles? Jesus wants to make our troubles easier. We have humble ourselves, step under that yoke and submit to allowing Him to help us. We also need to believe that He is in control. He has our best interests in mind and He will give us rest from the pressure of those problems.

The other phrase I'd like to mention, is 'Let me teach you'. Are we willing to learn from these difficulties?

Think about this... if there is a small object placed very close to your eyes (a problem you are dealing with) it can block out a beautiful vista before you. Can we put our problems down long enough to view the vast expanse of life, His Life, before us all the way to our glorious eternity?

Psalms 62:8 (NLT)
O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.

Do you trust Him? Do you think He can do anything about your problems? Yes, He can!

We have to lay them down and bring them to Him. As we give them over to Him, we will begin to see that vista. It will become more clear and beautiful. We will see Him shining more powerfully in our heart.

2 Corinthians 4:6 (AMP)
6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give us the Light of the knowledge of the glory and majesty of God [clearly revealed] in the face of Christ.

We will see His glory and this eternal glory far outweighs any struggle, trouble or problem we have. Let's focus on that.

Instead of giving our problems too much power, let's give Jesus power over our problems!

Blessings,
Lori
