We have a lot of irons in the fire right now.... Not only are we trying to finish the mudroom/office. We have been painting the exterior of the house. The weather has not cooperated with us this year. With brick you have to wait for the brick to dry out before you paint it. So, we need 3 days of dry weather, before we can paint. Then on top of that we are helping our son do some DIY at his house.💗 It's all good and it's all working out great. It's just a little busy. 😁 But if you know me... I like busy!!

Soooo during the rainy days we work inside. If you've missed any of the updates, here's all the posts on the Mudroom/Office.

Mudroom/Office - Part 3 - The Feastmaster

In the last post, we finished up where the feastmaster was.

What I haven't really showed you is what we've been doing on the other side of this room.

Hubby installed cabinets. This is going to be our 'drop zone & charging drawer'.

cabinets installed

The closets to the right are painted, just no doors or shelves or anything there. The butcher block leaning is going to be the counter for the cabinet. It just needs to be stained and sealed.

I used the same stains to match the butcher block counter for our fish aquarium.

First, I always use Minwax Pre-Stain. Then a quick stain and wipe off of Minwax Classic Gray and then follow with Minwax Provincial. Lastly, a top coat to seal it. I've used Minwax Polycrilic, but this time I used General Finishes Gel Topcoat. I like both of them.

I love the way it turned out! We found a mini cabinet to go above the fridge. It's not exactly the same as the other wall cabinet, but it's the best we could find. It'll be fine! Now to build the fridge enclosure.

counter in

We purchased a 4' x 8' sheet of sanded plywood. Cut it in half, then painted it. Each half will enclose the mini fridge. We basically did the same thing we did when we enclosed our regular refrigerator. (The link below.)

We Built A Fridge Enclosure

Adding supports

In the photo above, you can see hubby added supports to the side wall and back.

Then he installed the cabinet. Plus you can see that the mini fridge is well supported.

Installing cabinet above mini fridge

Almost there! Under the fridge there is going to be a drawer. Hubby already started building the cabinets to the ceiling. In the next photo he added the crown molding. Now I just need to finish painting the cabinet doors and trim. Looks so good!!

Fridge Enclosure

Oh!  I forgot to show you... I had to scrape almost ALL of the paint off that front area and repaint it before we started the floors. Ugh! It was no fun!

So much scraping

What a messy job! But it needed to be done. When I painted it years ago, I didn't prime. Ooops! So, I scraped and lightly sanded, primed and painted. Whew! Except for the door. That's going to be black.

Now for the floors! I told you we've been busy.... it's been raining a lot!! Here's the first row of flooring.

first row of flooring in mudroom

Halfway done! It's the same flooring we have done in the rest of the house. I love that it's all the same now. It's from Home Depot, called Lifeproof in Dusk Cherry.

halfway finished with flooring

It went in pretty quick! Only because of that glorious Laminate Floor Cutter! It makes putting in floors soooo much faster than making each cut with a a box cutter.

Flooring finished back

Flooring finished front

As you can see I started to paint the front door. It needs a couple of more coats. Hubby has most of the crown molding done. Soooo... That's were we are for now. Little by little. 😊

Blessings,
Lori
