Rental Property Renovation Part One

Hi everybody! Last month we started working on updating the entry areas at the apartments we own. Just incase you were thinking I didn't have enough to do... :)

They were in pretty bad shape…

We purchased new front doors for the entry areas last year.  They look so much better. That was the beginning…

Now, I’ve shared about our apartments before.  Here are some of the projects we’ve completed:

An Updated Apartment
Apartment Demo
Apartment Cabinet Painting
Apartment Renovations Complete

The entry areas were the last on the list to do. Now that picture might not look too bad… but they are, you just need to take a closer look. Trust me they are dark, dreary, dirty and in need of some TLC.

Here are some more pictures of the areas that we have been tackling. By the way, please forgive some of the quality… some were taken with my iPhone. Also, there are 3 entry areas to this building and they are all pretty much identical, so some of the pictures will be from different ones.

This is another first floor entry area:

Moving up to the 2nd floor. See what I mean about the wall cracking and falling off.

There is a lot of damage around the window areas.

Then going back down the stairs… You can see the landing area. I can't wait for new flooring and to re-stain the stairs.

Here’s a few close ups of the damage we are dealing with downstairs as well.

Looks like fun, right??!! Not!

Anyway, first things first, we decided it would be best to paint the rest of the walls a nice bright color. That would quickly freshen up the space. We lightly sanded the walls and started painting.

What a difference!!

Now, I took these pictures after only one coat, but it looks so much better!!

If you look in the corners you can see the old paint color on the front walls compared to the new color. This is sooo much better!

Now, for those cracking peeling front walls… Those were going to need some special attention. We really didn’t want to tear them off.  That would have been a HUGE mess and we have no idea what was underneath.

So, here’s a sneek peek at what we decided to do.
Planks Used

Oh! My.... Is that shiplap??? Yeppers!! I can't wait to show you how awesome it looks!!

That’s all I’m sharing for now… But that right there was A LOT harder than what you think.  I’ll explain next time…

So, there’s the beginning to our rental property reno.
