Check Your Attitude

Every now and then, we all need an attitude check. There is a poisonous attitude out there of entitlement. Like the 'world owes you something'... Entitlement is a feeling or a belief that you deserve to be given something. 

How do we combat that attitude? With thankfulness! Thankfulness is the opposite of entitlement. Being grateful for what you already have. An attitude of gratitude.

Hebrews 12:28 (NLT)
28 Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.

First of all, we have so much to be thankful for, especially grateful for our salvation! If God gave us what we 'deserved' there would be no hope for us, our eternal destination would be hell. Thankfulness is an attitude of the heart.

Ephesians 2:4-5 (NLT)
4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)

There is a newer song by Sons of Sunday, called 'One More Day'. One of the lines in that song, gets me every time and it's so simple. It says, "Oh, Lord, I just really want to praise You, You mean everything, everything, everything to me". Yes! That's line brings me straight back to what my life is for... It's for Jesus! He is everything to me! " You gave me one more day, to say I love You".

It's too easy to fall into the trap of wanting what you don't have.... Always thinking like that will just make you miserable. However, an attitude of gratefulness will fill you with joy!

Lord, let me have a thankful heart. Remind me of all your many many blessings in my life!

When we take note of all we have to be thankful for, our perspective begins to shift from ourselves and focusing on all we don't have. Instead we begin to focus on all that we DO have and all that HE's done for us. That's when our heart begins to rejoice and worship!

Psalms 107:1 (NLT)
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

Give Him praise! He is sooo good to us! He will take care of all of your needs. Life is a journey with ups and downs. It's how you go through them that makes the difference. Keep your eyes on Jesus. He will get you through. 

I look at my life and the ups and downs are there, but God! He has got me through this far and He will not fail me in the future. So, I will be thankful. I will praise Him, because He gave me one more day to say, ' I love You'.

Psalms 100:4 (NLT)
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.
