The God of Surprises
Each day is a gift from The Lord and we have no idea what kind of surprise might be right around the corner.
The last devotional I wrote was about Having Loose Hands. The loose hands refer to our hold on earthly possessions. I thought it interesting in the next verse, King David declared that his future was in God's hands. I know that God holds us securely!
Psalms 31:14-15 (NLT)
14 But I am trusting you, O Lord,
saying, “You are my God!”
15 My future is in your hands.
Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.
This gives me such peace, knowing that what ever 'surprise' comes around the corner, God is prepared. I can trust in Him. This life is full of surprises, filled with change and uncertainty. We can feel secure throughout those 'surprises', resting in His sovereignty.
I am actually relieved that I am not in control of my life! The plans He has for you are good!
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Surprises come in a variety of ways... Some are super wonderful blessings you didn't expect. Some are an answer to prayer that was different than what you were thinking. Some are tough times that turned into good that you never dreamed of. And some are just super tough times we don't understand.
Through all the surprises, we need to trust God and pray to Him daily believing that He is in control and can work everything for our good.
Whether today is good or not so good, each day is a gift to be thankful for and rejoice.
Psalms 118:24 (NLT)
24 This is the day the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
We all want the good surprises. I believe there are more of them than we realize, we just aren't looking. Maybe start looking for those surprises, in the most unexpected places... especially since you know you are in His hands. We don't have to worry, we can trust in Him to get us through anything and everything! The peace that comes from living and resting in His Hands, is the best!
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Blessings,
Lori
