Sunday Style - One Day At A Time

Sunday Style - One Day At A Time

One day at a time.... when my mom was going through her chemo treatment, I remember her saying she could only take one minute at a time. When you're suffering, sometimes that's all you can do.

But do we really take one day at a time? I know I can spend a little too much time thinking about the future, concerned about what ever events might take place or something that I need to do.

Or I'll spend too much time analyzing something in the past. I need to remind myself to take one day at a time.

Matthew 6:34(NLT)
34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

God gives us grace for each day. He knows what we can handle. He want's us to trust in His sufficiency. He wants us to live each day in the present.

I'm not saying we shouldn't think about the future at all... I'm sitting here looking at my lists for next week. I'm talking about fretting and worrying over things.

2 Corinthians 12:9(NIV)
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

We need Jesus' grace every single day. I know I do!

Each day we are facing all sorts of battles and we need Him to help us through them. He will give us the grace for each situation. We just need to accept that grace... we need to recognize our weakness and neediness to accept the assistance He is giving us every day... every minute.

Philippians 4:19(NLT)
19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

I love that verse! He will take care of you. It doesn't say that He will take away your problems. In fact, none of the verses I've quoted here say that.

He will help you through them.... help you get to the other side of them. He loves you. He is always working for your good! Remember that.

Romans 8:28 (NLT)
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Blessings,
Lori

  1. Lori,
These devotionals are so timely. Just wanted to share a testimony. I tutor a little boy of a single mom who is struggling with the pressure to put him on medication for Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD. He was just tested for some things at school and the message she is receiving from that side is that he needs to be put on medication for his problem. Because I have taught so many kids over the years on medication for similar issues, I encouraged her to take one day at a time, see how things go and allow time to take care of some of his problems with learning, all the while being proactive and seeking other ways that help him overcome his learning barriers. I counsel her in that way because I was told that very thing for my own son many years ago but chose to not medicate him. Today he is a very successful financial advisor who handles multi million dollar accounts and leads a team in his field. He is also in leadership positions in his church and community. He was very hard to raise but with God steering the wheel and living out how to take it one day at a time, we made it through and now I am able to encourage others to follow that model.
    Very grateful.
    Be blessed.
    Julie
