Sunday Drive - Finding Rest

Sunday Drive - Finding Rest

My mind has been restless for the last couple of weeks. Oh, the struggle I've had to find rest. Of course, it's that time of year where it starts getting busier and busier and busier.

I was so busy the other day, working on "stuff" for a deadline. I glanced at the clock and realized it was almost noon... I hadn't even brushed my teeth or dressed for the day. Ugh! My mind was in a frenzy trying to get 'all the things done'... I just stopped and under my breath said, "Lord, help me!"

Psalm 62:5 (NIV)
5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him.

At some point, we all find ourselves lost in the rush of life, or endless 'To Do' lists. Whether it's a deadline for work, or a party your hosting, or getting ready for the holidays... you can fill in the blank. It's draining and it's definitely not where we find rest.

Matthew 11:28-29 (NLT)
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Yes! This verse just makes me stop and take a deep breath. Be still for a moment and listen for Jesus saying to you, "Come to me." Jesus is the only one that can give our mind and soul rest. Take a few moments to drink in His Presence. Saturate your mind with His love and peace.

Psalms 23:1-3 (NIV)
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul.

Spending time in His Presence will refresh you and give you the strength. I also find that playing praise and worship music continually draws me back to Him.

So, when you find yourself lost in the swirl of life or drowning in the never ending things we pile up in our lives... stop.

Take a moment to pray.
Take a deep breath and drink in His presence.
Read His Word.
Play a praise song.
You will find rest.
You will find strength.

Thank You, Lord, for giving us Your Word and Your Presence to give us peace and find rest for our souls and mind.

Blessings,
Lori

  1. Thank you Lori for the beautiful post. There are brief moments I find peace, reading your post was one of those moments. It has been 57 days without my Riley. The worst nightmare of my life continues.

  2. King David's metaphor does show us the wisdom and grace of God. An example for use to use daily. You have chosen wisely.

  3. Thank you so much for these scriptures. They come at an appropriate time for me. I just suddenly loss my husband of 21 years. Due to blood clots to his heart. Since his death my son and I have suffered so much. Without going into it all, let’s just say, thank you thank you. These scriptures came to me at the right moment.
