Sunday Drive - What Shapes Your Thinking?

Sunday Drive - What Shapes Your Thinking?

There are so many influences in our lives today... Our family, friends, media... the big one now is social media. These all in some way shape our thinking. What I want is the Holy Spirit to shape my thinking. I want to think God's thoughts.

Romans 8:6 (NLT)
6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

We all have a sinful nature that wants to take the lead in our lives. We need to be careful, because that can be destructive to our hearts and minds. If we allow the Holy Spirit to control that sinful nature, we can live in so much more peace.

What are we feeding... The Holy Spirit or our sinful nature? Whatever we feed will grow and whatever we starve will die. Think about it.... What are you allowing to shape your thinking?

I can tell you, right now, that I want to starve my sinful nature! Of course, right? And feed the Holy Spirit. But is that what I'm really doing? Unfortunately, what I want to do and what I actually do are sometimes two different things.

What is filling my mind? What am I watching? What am I listening to? Who and what is influencing and shaping my thinking?

Romans 12:2 (NLT)
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Sometimes, we just need to take a break from it all and re-evaluate. Make a change or two, and start again. Remember this is a journey.

Start with adding more of The Word to your life, even if it's just one verse, one section, one chapter. This will allow the Holy Spirit to start producing some fruit in your life.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.

These fruits of the Spirit will shape your thinking.

Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Keep the faith! It's not easy in this electronic world! But we are fighters, we won't give up! Just keep trying and asking God to help you!

Blessings,
Lori
