Quick Weekend Bathroom Reno

Quick Weekend Bathroom Reno

Hi Friends!

We have been been busy little bees.... of course working on projects here at our home. However, this is a little weekend project we completed at our son's home. 😊

Here's what they wanted done:

  • replace 50 year old toilet and vanity
  • make sure there isn't any floor damage under toilet
  • replace flooring

This is not a big list and we felt confident we could do this in a weekend. Our son was all in! He learned so much about DIY this weekend!

And before we get started, no, we aren't replacing the blue tub. It's still in good condition and they kinda like the blue. For being a pretty old bathroom, it really is in good shape.

First things first, let's remove the toilet.

Removing toilet

Pretty standard... we've removed and replaced our fair share of toilets...

Then the vanity had to go...this revealed that there wasn't just one flooring that needed to be removed but 2!

2 floors to be removed

Not fun... Hubby said that he was having deja vu, from removing our old kitchen flooring with all the staples!!!

Once the flooring was completely removed then the wood around the toilet was examined. And sure enough there was some damage. Not bad really considering how old the toilet was.

Damaged subfloor

They cut out the damaged wood and replaced it. It was a little tricky trying to find the same thickness of wood, but they made it work.

It's time for the new floors! My DIL picked a product called Marmoleum. It is a bio-based, durable, non-toxic, anti-microbial flooring that is easy to maintain. Here is the website if you are interested.

She chose a diamond pattern with alternating colors. We've never used this product or created the diamond patter, but hubby and son figured it out!

Actually, our son really got the hang of it and installed most of it! We barely had enough! Whew!! Thankfully, we didn't have to install flooring right where the pipes were. The vanity completely covers that area.

Flooring finished

New toilet installed.

We did repair a row of tiles next to the door, but otherwise the new vanity is taller and covers it all.

Finished bathroom

It looks sooooo good! The last bit was to hook up the plumbing.

And we're in business!!!

Let's remember where we started....

And now!! This was a fun project and we finished it in a weekend!
