No Down Time!

No down time for this girl….
I really have been working on things,
just not the things I REALLY want to be working on.

I know… I sound like a broken record.
I feel like I’ve been saying this over and over again.

So, I’m going to show you the progress we’ve made at the apartments.
At least if I show you all that,
I’ll feel like I’ve been doing SOMETHING!!

But first, these keep me cheery...
Fresh flowers....  :)
These I bought them last Thursday and a week later...

I just changed the water and
they still look just as fresh!
I'm really liking having REAL flowers on the table!

Now, back to business.
Let's take a look at the progress.
In the kitchenette…..
Before:

Almost there...but what a difference!
 The cabinets are painted!
The ugly backsplash/surround has been replaced!
It is room is painted, except for a little touch up.
Sorry, for the bad lighting... ugh!
The sink and counter is almost finished.
The only thing left is the floors! Yay!

In the bathroom….
Before:

After:
The new shower has been installed.
 Fixtures are next.
2 coats of paint are done!
Now just a good cleaning and put down the floors.

Bedroom….
No pic here.... :/
The 2 coats of paint are finished… Just needs carpet.

Today I’m going to finish painting the living room.

See, I have been working…
Now, I didn’t do everything…
But I think you get the idea that
I have been a busy bee.
Love to chat more,
but that paint roller is calling my name!
 Have a FANTABULOUS weekend!

What?

Another Blogger Award??
Amy @ Yellow House on 3rd
nominated me for

Thank you so much, Amy!!

I had never even heard of this one.
So, I went to Google.
What did they have to say?
Well, I found an actual blog that records and answers questions
for the blogger award. They even keep a list of the nominees.
You can check it out Here.

So, what is this award all about?
I wasn't sure what the hype was.
Apparently this is a blogger to blogger award.
The host of the VBA blog said it was more like a chain letter
 that gets passed around.  Ugh...
That is NOT what I want to do or be apart of.
  Do you remember those?
"Don't break the chain or you will have ... blah blah blah...."

I kept scrolling down and reading....
Then, I read someone else's definition.
It's more like friendship bread!!
{rufflesandtruffles.com}
Now that's more like it!
Doesn't that look DELISH??!!
I LOVE friendship bread, it's so sweet and cinnamony and good!
I have a starter in my freezer... Hmmm
Maybe I should pull that out and share some...

So, when I heard THAT definition, I thought,
"Ok, I'll do this"

Ultimate BLOG PARTY 2012

I am a little late for the party here, but I made it!
This is really cool!
If you are interested in finding other awesome moms that blog, click on over to the party and see for yourself!
By the way, there are over 300 just in one category! Amazing...

So, maybe in this post, I'll tell you a little bit about who is behind
 The Stonybrook House.

I'm pretty new at blogging (I just had my 2 month bloggy birthday) and I would have to say that about a year ago or so,
I was CLUELESS to what a blog actually was.
Can you believe it?
Somehow, I stumbled upon Thrifty Decor Chick and
my world changed and has never been the same.

I was born and raised in California, where I met my wonderful hubby of 24 years!  We  moved to Pennysylvania with everything we owned in a UHaul truck
 over 21 years ago!
We knew we didn't want to raise our children in Los Angeles
and felt the Lord directing us!
It was a leap of faith, it was the best leap we ever made!
(Especially for us Leepers, hahaha, my last name)

I can't believe how fast time flies!

My son was almost one when we made that trip, and now he is finishing up his Junior year in college, majoring in Computer Science.

My daughter was born a couple of years later, and she is now just finishing up her freshman year in college, majoring in Graphic Design.

I know, I hear you... Oh my!... two in college....
Yep! The Lord is good!

So, this was the PERFECT time for me to start blogging.... I'm an empty nester!

Hubby and I love the time they are home
and love the time when they are away at college.
It's given us a chance to spend more time together and spend more time doing things around the house.

The Stonybrook House is where I live....
 a house
 on a street called Stonybrook.
It has been a way for me to share all the things I love!
Decorating very cheaply, crafting, sewing, gardening, baking, crocheting, etc...
I haven't even shared them all yet,
but we are getting there.

Here are a few of my most popular posts...
The Lord has blessed us, is forever faithful, and I am grateful that you all stopped by to take a looksee!

Mulching Maniacs

Update!!
I'm still here....
Working like crazy...enjoying every minute.
Well, most of them....
I want to show you all how much progress we've made.
I must include hubby on this, because he helped me soooo much!  He brought wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of mulch and I did the spreading.
We make and AWESOME team!
Here's a sneak peak...
Now isn't that more welcoming?
I planted a light pink ground cover phlox and in the background I split a large mum from the garden by the streetlight.
Much better than this...
Ugh.... so embarrassing...

First, I planted the Rhododendrons.
They haven't bloomed yet, but they are going to be a bright red.
Can you say, Gorgeous!
I planted two on each side of the porch under the windows.
FYI.... little side note.... I think I have the rockiest "soil" in AMERICA!!!
Well, I'll drop it down to Pennsylvania.  Rock after rock after rock... ugh!
Here's the other side and my mini mountain of mulch!

But now look at that mountain.... I'm going to have to order more!

Wow!  That looks so much better.  Don't you think?
Before:
  After:
We also mulched in front of the garage.
I moved the golden mop heads from the garden by the streetlight.
( I don't know their official name, they look like mop heads to me)
See them?  I moved them here...
It looks so nice!  I can't believe how wonderful it looks!
I'm no longer an embarrassment! Yay!
Well, except for this....
I'm going for a whole new look... Not this look though.
It's still a work in progress...

And look who kept me company for most of the time...
My brother's dog, Rocky.
He's so funny with that big 'ol stick!

Ahhh!!!
What a difference!  Still more work to be done,
but I see the light at the end of the tunnel!
And, No! it isn't a freight train coming at me...
Good Lord, I hope not!

Thanks for stopping by...

An Executive Decision

Ok...
I've made an executive decision...
Sorry to say that the work on the office is
being put on hold for a couple of weeks.
Let me tell you why....

A couple of days ago I was mowing...
I really enjoy jumping on my John Deere and tooling around the yard.
Until I started to really look around....
Umm, I am embarrassed to say!  My yard looks awful!
My poor neighbors walk by my house and have to look at this....
 BORING!!!
And this isn't even the worst of it!
Well, you can see a bit, look at the tree ring!
I feel the shame!!! I'm not doing my tree justice!
Why have I neglected this for so long?
Probably why I've neglected the house for so long...
Apts., Job, Kiddos, blah, blah, blah....

Do you see this?
Kinda pathetic, hubby and I didn't even finish mulching it last year....

Last year, we planted this beautiful Red Maple, plus few others.
Hubby rented a backhoe and all went pretty well.
Until.... while digging the hole for this maple,
he uncovered a 4ftx4ft chunk of asphalt.
Really?
Why do builders do that?
I truly wish I had a picture of that!

So, ever since digging that up we now have a rock garden in the middle of my front yard. Nice, huh!

Also, in the front yard there is a sink hole or maybe it's more like a sink line?
It's for one of the pipes that goes to the street.
That needs to be filled so, I don't bump around on the mower.
I can almost get some air there....

Then how about this....
Don't you feel welcome?
Especially with the nice WEED next to it...
Ugh!
Well, that's all changing!
Now, that I've unveiled all of my ugly front yard embarrassments,
I must do something!!
Mulch is being delivered TODAY!
A whole truck load!
Plus I bought some of these beauties!
One of the problems with the front of the house,
is it literally doesn't get any sun!
So, shade lovers it is!
These will go under the windows.
I know it's not much but its a start!!

The garden around the street light is going to change.
The mulch all ran into the street last year, so
I am working on a solution there.

The garden in the center of the two properties was in an effort to camouflage the beautiful electric box and cable boxes.  It all looks much better by summer.
Except for the weeds that are in over abundance. And of course all of the mulch ran into the street! Fixing that too!!
 Mail boxes need some love!
So, the front yard, is the priority right now.
I just can't stand being an embarrassment to the neighborhood!

Believe me the back yard needs some work too, don't look to hard, I need mulch back there too!
Yet, here are a few pretty pics!

Enjoying the Spring!!

Liebster Blog Award!

I was totally shocked and honored when Our Pinteresting Family
awarded me with the Liebster Blog Award.

Thank you for thinking of me and presenting me with this award!
I had seen this on other blogs, and
I began to wonder where it started and where it came from.

According to Google:
"The origins of the Liebster Blog Award are somewhat unclear but the general consensus is that it originated in Germany.  Liebster means favorite or dearest, to showcase bloggers with fewer than 200 followers.  Upon accepting the award the recipient must then pass it on to five more blogs of note."

This is great! But I'm thinking there must be more to it, a bit of a mystery....

Oh, well!  I began to look at the blogs that I follow and came up with 5
that I enjoy, that have 200 or less followers.

Most of the ones I featured are a bit more like me, baby bloggers.
I'll be celebrating my 2 month blogger birthday tomorrow! Yay!

So.... Drum roll please.....

My Top 5 are...

Lisa from Lewisville Love

All of these blogs are adorable, creative, and fun! Check them out!

To accept this blog award you must:

1. Link back to the person who awarded it to you.
2. Post the award to your blog
3. Give the award to 5 bloggers with less than 200 followers.
4. Leave a comment on the 5 blogs to let them know that they have been offered this award.

Thanks again to Megan from Our Pinteresting Family!

DIY Easter He is Risen Sign{Unemployed And LOVING it!!}

It's been 1 week that I have been "unemployed"....
You can read all about that here.
Can I say that I am LOVING it??
Most of the week I feel like I've been playing catch up.
You know cleaning, changing sheets, vacuuming my bedroom,
I am embarrassed to say how long it's been....
Hopefully, I'm going to be able to stay on TOP of things now.
It's definitely not fun feeling buried by all the "stuff" that needs
to get done around the home.
It has always help if I make lists to keep me organized and on track.

I don't think you understand the enormous amount of satisfaction I get out of crossing something off my LIST.  Yes, I am a lister... I have lists, post its, scraps of paper.....  Then I need to compile all of that into a MASTER LIST, then I break it all down in to smaller more manageable lists...
Then, I can cross those off the Master List.....Can't you see the my heart soar?
And when I get something done that wasn't on the list, well,
you already know I WILL write it down and then get the
wonderful feeling of crossing it off....Swoon....
Needless to say.... LOTS of crossing off is going on!

And I've had more time to think and ponder on projects.
(that get to be put on the list!)
I bought some of these beauties

We Are Moving....

Furniture!
Haha, I bet you thought we were actually moving, huh.
No, that's NOT happening.
Anyway, Hubby helped me move somethings around in the office.
Let me start from the beginning...
About a month ago, when I decided to start working on the office, I was trying to think about the colors and the furniture.  With black furniture, the room can quickly feel very dark and heavy.

I was talking to my daughter about it.
She is in college majoring in
graphic design/studio art.
She said the reason I feel like the room is heavy is because all of the black furniture is bunched up on one side of the room.
She explained that if I would move the hutch to the
other wall it would feel more balanced.
She was sooo right!

Well, the only problem was Hubby's fish aquarium was on that wall and that was something I was NOT going to mess with.  So, I had to wait....

The other problem was the fish tank was becoming
 quickly overpopulated with these.

 Malaysian Trumpet Snails

Ugh!  I'm mean they're okay for your aquarium, but there were soooo many of them.  We've had an aquarium for about 20 years and we have NEVER had any snails, so this was weird.
Hubby and I didn't know how to get rid of them, so basically we did nothing...
It got worse...
Not fun.
Now, really, it isn't that hard to google how to get rid of these buggers, but neither one of us took the time to do it.  Then one day, we did...
Imagine that?
It was so very difficult to type in google search...
"How to get rid of snails in aquarium"
Google said, "Yo Yo loaches".
Well, we called the pet store and they didn't have them but they did have zebra loaches and they do the same thing.... chomp up those snails!
So, we went there and came home with 2 of these.
 They are really cute!

It's been close to a month... the snails are GONE!
I can't believe it.  It worked! Yay!
So, yesterday, hubby did a major water change and we moved the aquarium.
Which meant we could move the hutch!
First, I needed to remove those shelves....

Then spackle and paint the holes.

Plus the internet comes in right next to the fish tank, so....

It went from this...

To this....
See that great big empty wall? Oooo, I have plans!
I feel like I can really get moving on the office!

Now the office feels much bigger
and more balanced.
Thank you, Sweetie, for your great advice!

Oh, I have to share this with you.
Hubby has a pair of mating angel fish.
They are really pretty, we've had them since they were the size of a quarter.
Every so often they like to lay their eggs
on this one plant in the tank.
My son was home and we showed him
that they were laying and fertilizing the eggs.
It was pretty cool and he videoed it on his phone.
Thought you might want to see....

Thanks for stopping by!!
